Ray Guo points out that WeChat has always confirmed that they prioritize the user experience and place a safe environment for its users above all else. By banning external links to other Tencent services, WeChat is now more than ever seen as a platform and application of user privacy integrity. A written agreement? It is not very realistic. Countless young people under the age of 18 have been using WeChat for a long time without anyone`s consent. As in the previous Parliament, Tencent has good intentions, but they should rewrite these age-related terms so that the rules are more flexible and practical. Parents and legal guarantors are required to supervise minors when using social media such as WeChat and to protect them from inappropriate content. WeChat (Weixin 微) is one of the most popular social media apps in China, with 1.15 billion monthly active users in China and overseas from the end of 2019.6 The app is owned and operated by Tencent, one of China`s largest technology companies, and was launched in 2011 as a mobile instant messaging app. Since then, Tencent`s weChat/Weixin Group7 has developed a variety of communication functions at WeChat, including instant messaging (z.B. a private chat, group chat), WeChat Moments (i.e. a feature similar to the Facebook timeline in which users can share text updates, upload images and share short videos or articles with their friends) and the public account platform (i.e. a blogging platform that allows authors and businesses to write for public groups). 45 billion messages are sent daily via WeChat.8 We have the right to delete, at our sole discretion and without notice, all content, programs and/or services provided within WeChat (including one of WeChat`s corresponding platforms or services) in accordance with these Terms.
The new step means that they have less access to data and cannot use it to their advantage and can develop better strategies to expand or refine targeting on WeChat or other platforms that offer the ability to use CRM-type data to compare it to a specific user for advertising.
